What all the stuff in email headers means—and how to sniff out spoofing

This is a good intro to today's e-mail headers. If you're puzzled by DKIM, SPF, and DMARC start here.

Backing up to Google Drive via /r/sysadmin

Backing up to Google Drive

I work for a school system, and I'm worried about ransomware. We have backups, but they're just stored on a server on our network, so we're likely to be screwed if ransomware hit. Being eduction, we get unlimited Google Drive storage. I've seen some software for backing up to Drive, but I just need something simple. I just want a dated folder created, and our backups saved to it. I had thought about using Google File Stream and a batch file, but I'm guessing that'd be no better than local storage when it comes to ransomware. So I just need a program to do it that doesn't leave Drive exposed. Googling isn't finding what I need, so I'm hoping you guys know of something. Thanks.

Never underestimate the power of Inspect Element to get around bad programmers via /r/sysadmin

Never underestimate the power of Inspect Element to get around bad programmers

In the last two days I had to struggle with two shit-built websites…

The first was a replacement part company website that had registrations completely broken… so I inspected the form and noticed they misspelled a form element name for required field (so it failed even when you provided it), corrected the HTML, and successfully registered for the site and ordered my parts.

The second was a banking website (for a major bank) that only allows the download of up to 3 months of credit card statements – unless you changed the HTML option element in the form to specify an older month – and then it would pull up any month you want.

It's sad how bad programmers are these days. In the first case I let the company know… fuck the bank though because they are charging people $5 per statement to get older ones.

EDIT: Obligatory
